Whr are we heading???

Now its official!!!

India is going crazy …what else would justify the recent march, by thousands of youngsters, spilling over on to the streets of the Indian metropolises..and the cause,
Well hold your breath, Gay rights!!!!

For a nation which is branded as a developing nation (even after 10 yrs of big impact development), aren’t there many other issues which need attention??
And aren’t youth supposed to be the backbone of a nation and fight for these causes???
But the reality (and tat too a grave one) is that young India is beginning to go the western way.

Many people may argue that it was a very small section of the society, that expressed its thoughts on the streets, and that there is no need for such a hue and cry over the matter. But hasn’t history taught us better? All major revolutions in the past were an outcome of small, trivial incidents which led to a shift in the way the future was designed. And I believe this is one of those trivial incidents which are going to shake a nation whose cultural roots are buried deep down.

As always in life, there are two sides of an argument. The people who have been fighting for these laws may call the judgement by the Delhi High court a historic one. For all those who were brave enough to come out on to the streets to support the cause, it was a moment of triumph. They argue that their freedom of expression cannot be curbed and that if they are interested then they should be allowed to practice this culture without any criminal implications. Sounds convincing?? May be…

But then the other side of the argument also has its points. Why should a country like India even think of amending its laws for such practices? Just because a group of people shout that it’s their right of expression, do we shy away from our own culture? Shouldn’t India as a nation be stronger in its resolve to keep western culture at bay?
Well there are lot more other things which the western culture puts emphasis on but we never ever bother about them. Let me try out a few

1. In the west, every citizen believes that it is his responsibility to keep the country clean

In India : should I really mention it

2. In the west, they work hard through out the week, so that they can party harder
on the weekends

In India: We adapt their culture of late night and weekend parties but stick to
our culture of postponing work.

The comparisons can go on…..

I don’t know whether this post is making any sense at all and I am not even sure whether my point is being put across. But, this is just an outburst on the cultural tremors which our nation is experiencing at this moment.

I personally believe this is sheer crap and if at all somebody decides to raise their voice against all this , I am always there to lend my voice too. I still believe there are some laws defined by nature which are far above any cultural or personal laws and that as Humans it is our responsibility to uphold the laws of nature.

I just hope that in future demonstrations on the streets are for more practical purposes which help drive our nation on the paths of glory that it is destined to travel.

Vanakkam Chennai

Vaango vaango......

Its been two weeks since i have set foot on the land of temples...

Chennai has been my host for my month long training schedule and the experiences have been very very interesting...

Week 1 :

The accomdation has been provided by my company and its a nice one bedroom flat fully furnished with an AC, refrigirator, microwave , TV and a washing machine..

Training started on the 1st of June...Will not bore u much with my training details because there are other interesting things to be told.

The most amazing thing about chennai is its transport system. For a guy who is comfortable with the local language buses are the best mode of transport. But imagine the fate of people like me who is well versed in broken Tamil...It is really difficult to get a bus if you do not know the local language.

That leaves me with the other mode of transport..the dreaded Chennai Auto...

Now consider this situation..My friends are waiting to meet me at Spencer Plaza

I come onto the main road looking for an auto and luckily find one..

I go to the auto driver and ask him

" anna spencers plaza "

Auto driver : ukkarungo

Me : Evlam anna

AD: 150...

Me : (wat??? it was almost like i was given a shock with a high current source)

Me: (recollecting myself)..." anna 150 rombha jasti anna"

AD: ile ile anna..traffic $&$**(#&$*$* ( cudnt understand wat he said..but could realise that he said the traffic would be more)

Me : rombha jasti anna

AD : 130 kurtinge ( smethng like tat)

Me : ile anna 120 ( as if it made a difference)

AD : ukarungo

and the expression on my face would be like i have become the second Indian to win an oscar..

And then once the auto starts u feel like u are watching a jamesbond movie...only difference is u also seem to be part of it..and then by the time u settle down in the auto u have reached your destination...

It seems a really short ride and yet have to pay him 120 bucks...

So my advice to all people planning to come to TN..learn the language...

Will continue with my experinces in Chennai in the coming blogs....

On the Tracks Of Life.....

Ten Years Before .....

Train journeys were something which were very eagerly awaited by everyone ( especially children). The train journeys were a way to know the world, a way to meet and understand different people with varied backgrounds. New friends were made and relationships flourished. The elderly people had lots of points on any topic of discussion and children played with each other - jumping from seat to seat- happily munching choclates and snacks given by the other "co travellers". Journeys always started on a note of expectation - of making news friends or knowing new things - and more often than not ended with a feeling of missing the people with whom we had a nice journey.

Now !!!!

In this so called age of Social Networking - well the term pretty much sounds like a one word definition for all the above experiences...But sadly the answer is a loud NO.

Todays train journey is just a journey - the act of travelling from one place to another ( defintion source : oxford dictionary) ...Journeys these days would be six strangers sitting at a place and remaining strangers till the end of the journey. The conversation would at maximum be limited to " where are you going " and " what are you doing" . Even more common sight would be an individual with his earphones plugged in " oblivious to the happenings around him'her" and a book in hand. Children are now scolded for running around in the train and playing or for eating anything given by strangers. The only set of people who still have a chat with everybody is the elder generation ( they are yet to be bitten by the generation bug i guess)...

So what about all the talk of Social Networking ..Guess its all limited to Orkut and Facebook and Late nite and weekend parties....

This blog is a result of many experiences put together..different people may have different opinions..if so..Comments are welcome..

Well life's been pretty boring these days....done with college..missing friends...its all been like a calm after the storm...
The only saving grace has been the IPL 2 @ South Africa...
To be really honest, this IPL was not expected to generate as much enthu as the previous one for the very fact that it was being held outside India and other smaller reasons like the elections going on for a month ( nt really a small reason uh)...
But then with nothing else to do..the IPL seemed a very viable option to kill time...
(seems like i am writing this because i have to write something in my blog..nevertheless)
And the IPL has been real entertaining over the past week. Now with the business end of the IPL its all serious entertainment..The first of the semifinal was played today and it was a real treat to cricket lovers all across the world.
The Deccan Chargers v/s Delhi Daredevils...
Everybody was backing the Delhi team to pull it of as they were the most consistent team throughout the tournament..
The Deccan Chargers were the underdogs and everybody were surprised that they made it so far..
But one man changed everything..
Adam Gilchrist..His name has been synonymous with destruction in world cricketand that was what he exactly did today. An innings of the highest qualiy which just left everybody stunned and silenced...

There are instances in sports when individual brilliance dominates everything else and one such instance was at display at the Centurion today....Here is a man who has demolished the opposition adn won the match singlehandedly for his team and..he comes out for the post match presentation and says "it was a team effort, everybody played their part and we won " .... Now that is what seperates the ordinary from the extraordinary..

You and Your Vote

Its time for the biggest showdown in Democracy....Elections !!!!!
It surely is festive time for the umpteen number of news channels , both national and regional, that have already got the whiff of the elections coming up ..
Apart from cricket and movies..elections are the biggest entertainer for the common man..one can see the same faces , which we saw five years back, take the centre stage with the regular promises to the common man ( and nowadays weird promises like colour TV's and cell phones )...
So, the question that arises now...what is different this time ????

The instinctive answer may be : nothing, its the same as always..

But no, this elections got to be different.. and it is we..the people, the major stakeholders in this democracy who should make a difference..

So , what can we do ? is the million dollar question...

We, the young Indians, the future of this nation should make an impact and strive for a better future for our country, our people..
NO..i am not talking about the YUVA movie style of contesting elections ( lets leave that only to movies)..
Firstly, please make sure you vote ( which mite not be possible because we have been too ignorant and irresponsible in not registering our vote), but then, please encourage others to vote..
As students we have lots of communitites in which we are a part of..use this media to spread awareness, an awareness which would change our future, one which would act as a catalyst for change...
Please take responsibility to change the future of this nation, A nation which has been torn by individuals and groups, selfish and greedy polticians who have maximised their wealth at the cost of our nation, Let us spread awareness and make sure that we have a better future for ourselves.......
Please Vote......

ASB : A part of life or Life?????

This may be the first time that I am being forced to do something and still liking it !!!!

I was thinking a lot about how to start a blog, which article to write and what would be the response of people ( if at all anybody has the time to read it) .

And then a few discussions in the last few days helped me make up my mind about my first blog…

Half the batch is already placed ( Congrats to them..I am genuinely happy) and then the other half ( which I am sure will also be placed in the near future)…

Going back in time …I still remember my first few days in Amrita…..

The joy of finally doing what I wanted to do…..

The fear of treading the unknown path…

The anguish of staying away from my parents and friends..( 1st time in my life)

The will to succeed and prove myself to the world….

And then started the journey..a journey which was one heck of a roller coaster ride..

It had the usual expected events….Exams, results the tense moments before the results..etc

And then there were the unexpected twists…assignments that had to be submitted overnight, presentations before the most dreaded faculty L , surprise tests that I had no clue about ..

And then to the other extreme of ASB..the events which were awesome to say the least..

Starting with the corporate workshop, icebreaking, festivals

Utsav 07 ..undoubtedly some of the best days in ASB,

Then the forum selections, pragati and soon the end of an year…

The real time corporate experience of Summer internship’s and then the Juniors..

All this only a small part of the life at ASB…..

The major part of life at Amrita was friends, friends and friends…..

From being unknowns to the best of friends and sharing the deepest secrets…Friends were always there to make worse moments better and the better ones even better J

I have no qualms in saying that friends were the best thing that happened to me in ASB…

They were there when I needed them the most…lending me a helping hand and they were also there when I didn’t want them to ( but needed them.. )

Birthdays, crushes, grades and grade cuts, gossips, outings ( Aloo Parothas ,dozen flop movies …)…festival celebrations…

Discussions , arguments….were we agreed to disagree on most but agreed on a few

All these moments certainly made my life more memorable…

And now writing this I am feeling tensed that all this is about to end….I really don’t want these moments to end…but then as the saying goes all good things must come to an end and so will life with friends at ASB….

I might have not learnt a lot academically ( with due respect to all my awesome faculties..)..but I have certainly learnt LIFE………………..

Ending it with DJ’s dialogue in Rang De Basanti..

“ college gate ki is taraf hum life ko nachate hain aur gate ka us taraf life hume nachati hain “ .

A special thanks to Cauvery who motivated me to start this blog….( I owe u a treat ) and all my friends who stood by me thru al the difficult times…….

Sorry for such a long one…Comments pls
